It is the study of the interface between mind and body; the relationship between our physical matter and our energy, our body structures with our thoughts, feelings, and actions. It is the study of the intricate wisdom contained and expressed by these interactive parts that generously speak up for one another as loving members of a collective systemic whole, when one is suffering. In internal family systems work, it is a repairing of ruptured internal relationships to Self which trickles outward to our relationship with the Natural World and all beings.

At Heather L Anderson Boll, LPCC - Integrated Somatic Healing Arts, we believe in a holistic approach to wellness that addresses the mind, body, and spirit. We acknowledge the cumulative impact of systemic trauma for marginalized individuals of all identities and strive to create a welcoming and inclusive environment where everyone feels comfortable and supported.

Backed by global, evidence-based research (see below), extended-day EMDR Intensives allow exponentially deepened efficacy and efficiency of EMDR for healing trauma. Intensives can be supplemental to another ongoing therapeutic process, in collaboration with an established therapist on the client's team. This allows for a deeper focus on the reprocessing itself, without reliance on transferrence - and can bring a fresh perspective to work the client is doing already. If seeking an intensive as a standalone process, Heather will require several weeks of lead-up sessions and several weeks of follow-up sessions, and these can be provided by your regular therapist or Heather.
During a several-day intensive, you are the only client Heather sees, allowing her to completely focus on your process. A specially designed schedule for each client, each extended day includes interval breaks for restorative rest, movement, assessment of progress, and collaboratively honing our goals for the next segment. When appropriate, walking in nature can afford a reset of the nervous system between sets and passive bilateral installation of new insights - supporting critical distance from memory content through an immersive sensory experience outdoors.
If choosing a retreat setting at an inn or air bnb, Heather provides virtual sessions which you attend in your chosen setting - releasing you from the need to drive and allowing you to take resting breaks throughout each day's work. When an established therapy practice or neutral meeting space is available to reserve in advance, Heather may meet you there each day. For some clients, the retreat option allows a deeper commitment to your process, with more ease and greater "Window of Presence" to the work itself - away from the responsibilities, triggers, or pressures of every-day life. When this feels right for the individual, that in turn can afford deeper and more restful sleep, which supports the organic neurobiological design of the sleep-state: continuing the work of the day through passive reprocessing of REM / rapid eye movement.
In any intensive structure, each new day we track changes from the day before, scaling the "SUD" (subjective unit of disturbance) for memories or negative core beliefs; log insights from any overnight dreams you remember (often vivid with imagery and metaphor in this phase of work), and refocus goals for the day ahead. We have the ability to pick up right were we left off, without the extra time taken away for opening and closing (as with single session formats, which often leave only 20min in the middle for the reprocessing EMDR phase itself). Staying with the work in this way allows clients the opportunity to witness their own process with more immediate awareness, further reinforcing the critical distance from trauma experiences earned through EMDR - in other words, clients get even more opportunity to notice and celebrate their progress in real time.
When the client wishes to have family members or loved ones in close proximity, they may stay in the same retreat location with / nearby the client - creating a more supportive and safe environment away from home stressors between sessions, and making it possible to add conjoint sessions as indicated, for the clinician to offer psychoeducation about how to best support the client through this phase of work.

As a Somatically-Oriented TraumaTherapist, Heather integrates many holistic techniques, employing the wisdom of the individual's body and spirit to guide. She is an EMDRIA Certified EMDR Therapist, Internal Family Systems Therapist (IFSCA); Experienced-Registered Yoga Teacher; and Certified Associate Teacher of Fitzmaurice Voicework, in addition to earning four years of Alexander Technique training at Yale Drama School and Actors Studio. A twenty-five year career in Acting along with training actors in performance theory and embodied, experiential techniques in higher education have deeply informed Heather's work with clients as a therapist, teaching Authentic Presence with one's internal truth and in connection to others. Heather works through embodiment and breath; guiding a deep inquiry into each person's unique somatic-psychological being, just as she did with characters and students in previous incarnations of her work. She combines all these processes with talk therapy for a unique exploration specifically responsive to the individual's mode of learning and experiencing the world.
With focus on marginalized stress and systemic trauma, Heather draws from Feminist Systems Theory, offering an empowering client-led collaboration which examines the macro, micro, and internal systems of oppression which may be impacting the client; she assists clients in bringing internalized messages of un-worth to the forefront in order to reframe them, ultimately deepening a greater sense of belonging to a whole. Heather's work is inspired by relational cultural theory, rooted deeply in Expressive Arts, Spiritual Alignment, and Carl Rogers' principle of Unconditional Positive Regard: Centered in Love.
Certified EMDR Therapist and EMDR Consultant in Training, Heather regularly attends advanced trainings in EMDR for unique applications of this profound healing technique, participating in ongoing collaboration, consultation, and supervision with Lead Trainers of EMDRIA / experts in the field of complex trauma, PTSD and dissociation.
ADVOCACY STATEMENT
I seek to be a culturally affirming practitioner in every aspect of my work.
I champion your unique experience and seek to continually deepen my own awareness and sensitivity to all individuals and groups similar or different from myself ~ including members of every race; of every gender identity and expression; every affectional orientation; every culture, age, nation of origin, and language of origin; every degree of physical and mental special ability; every belief system, religion, and spiritual alignment -
with a particular devotion to serving those who have been marginalized and experience systemic trauma.
I am aware of my unjust privileges as a white, cis-gendered, heterosexual person in the United States,
along with my experiences of systemic marginalization and oppression as a woman.
I am aware of the intricate, complex ways in which this intersecting contradiction
informs my experience in this life.
I do not presume to know what your unique experience has been, but I stand in solidarity with individuals who identify as BIPOC, LGBTQ2SIAP+, immigrants and first generation members of our community, those with disabilities or special abilities, and those of all cultural, religious, spiritual beliefs.
I will make mistakes.
I invite you to communicate with me about the ways that I fall short, so I may continue to grow.
You will make mistakes, too!
I invite you into a space for repair that can lead to even deeper healing and awareness in your relationships outside the therapy room.
I uphold your right to know ease and bliss ~
and I will support you in your evolution toward wholeness, collective connection, and reunion with your true nature.
It is my honor to be in service of your unique healing path, which we will invent together.
With Respect, Heather (she/her/hers)
